At the forefront of digital disruption

Reliance Industries is India’s largest private sector company with revenues of ~$45 billion and 3 million shareholders. Reliance has remained true to its ‘growth is life’ credo by consistently demonstrating the ability to think big, execute with diligence and create value. Its biggest play to date is Jio – one of the largest transformational digital initiatives anywhere in the world – with an investment outlay of ~$30 billion.

Reporting on a grand scale

For the 2016-17 Annual Report, Reliance adopted the integrated reporting framework. AICL was once again its partner of choice for not only ensuring the highest levels of disclosure and transparency but also for content strategy, copywriting, design, production and project management. The report’s theme – ‘Life is beautiful, Life is digital’ – outlined the strategy and overall service spectrum of Jio and its transformative potential. Reliance is a diverse conglomerate with products across the energy value chain, upstream activities, petrochemicals, retail, media and digital services. In addition to a summary and detailed account of each business, the senior leadership and their views were showcased across the Management Review, making the report a comprehensive corporate publication running into 460 pages.

Packing a punch

Our challenge was to ensure the report does not become unwieldy and difficult to grasp, both in print and online versions, hence a lot of information had to be packed into easy-to-digest capsules. The report began with the key highlights, followed by sections where specific business and sustainability aspects were highlighted. Strong human and asset imagery, a consistent design style, colour coding and cross-referencing were used to enable readers to appreciate the depth and breadth of Reliance’s operations. For the online edition, the site architecture was made intuitive and designed to guide the reader through the content without losing the way. We ensured the report appealed to both the quick-reader and the deep-diver.
