Bharti Airtel is a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 17 countries across Asia and Africa. The company ranks among the top three mobile service providers worldwide in terms of subscribers. With the incumbents in India transfixed on price war to gain subscribers in a fiercely competitive market, Airtel wanted to differentiate itself in terms of value proposition and experience on offer.

We have been working with Bharti Airtel for a number of years, across all aspects of the Annual Report - from content strategy, copywriting to design, production and project management. For the 2016-17 report the theme, ‘Smart Network. Smarter Experiences’ was chosen to highlight the company’s continued efforts towards enriching its offerings and strengthening its systems and processes. We also focused on the company’s aggressive network transformation programme under ‘Project Leap’.

We followed a top-down approach, with the key highlights of Airtel preceding its thematic context. Strategic messaging from the leadership team were followed by sections elucidating specific businesses, responsibility/sustainability aspects while comprehensive KPIs were used to outline a clear roadmap for the future. The overall design strategy was contemporary, people-focused, with special emphasis on information design that engages and enlightens. We also rolled out the online version that was intuitive and allowed for easy navigation with the highlighted key content and KPIs on the homepage providing a quick reference to each section of the report. The report also celebrated the launch of the Airtel Payments Bank, India’s first, which is a major step towards achieving complete financial inclusion and further democratising financial services.
