Realising the dream of a better world

The Tata group, a global conglomerate with 120 odd companies and more than a century of existence, dreams of a better world by aspiring to achieve the 17 Global Goals and 169 targets. A landmark initiative of the United Nations, the Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), released in 2015 are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that people enjoy peace and prosperity. The SDGs set a framework of global development, aiming to achieve the targets by 2030.

The Tata group known for its corporate citizenship acknowledges that businesses should play a key role in achieving these goals, not only through conventional corporate social responsibility projects but also through developing responsible businesses, identifying business opportunities, creating new business models and improvising products and services. ‘We dream of a better world’ – a unique report published by a global business – is a documented account of how the Tata group is contributing to the Global Goals. AICL was the partner of choice. One of the key objectives of this document was to unravel the many layers of perceived complexity around the SDGs. The communication approach towards this was to minimise verbosity and present facts
using numbers.

Numbers indeed speak louder than words. Each developmental issue was presented through critical statistics and each goal was presented with the rationale of how businesses could contribute towards achieving it. A set of practicable actions are enumerated for businesses to act upon. The Tata group leadership’s keen interest in furthering the agenda of sustainable development reinstates and strengthens the group companies’ concerted efforts in this direction.

This document is a testament to the actions of Tata group companies directly or indirectly contributing to the goals. In the process, each initiative is creating business, societal or environmental value. The nature of initiatives varies across geographies, sectors and scale. AICL’s content strategy helped provide a uniform format for the case studies and create a synergy across sections. The learnings were well captured in crisp capsules, presented alongside each case study. The design conveyed the optimistic fervour of these initiatives while realistic imagery established the connection between businesses and individuals.

"We Dream of a Better World’ is the first-of-its-kind report on the business case for the SDGs to be published by a global corporate. AICL has provided unparalleled design support in putting together this comprehensive piece of work. Their ability to translate content into appealing design is truly remarkable. The designs infused youthfulness, vibrancy and were very contemporary, all of which is important for the theme of corporate volunteering."
